Southern Belle's History

History from a southern belle.

The Slave Narratives

If you are interested in a great read, full of rich culture and told first hand by the people who endured slavery. Read “Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States from Interviews with Former Slaves”, a Federal writers’ project. You can read them on http://www.Ancestry.com, they are well worth the read As historians, we must read the harsh truths of the past to keep from repeating the mistakes made in the future. Some of the interviewees are so full of spunk and it is quite an enjoyable read, as well as informative to know how much slavery influenced our culture, especially where I live in the South.
